Djibril Cisse's son plays for another nation and addresses wild differences with father

Djibril Cisse's son is looking to follow in the footsteps of his father by starring for Liverpool in the Premier League.

The former France striker was with Liverpool for three years during his own playing career.

Now it is his 17-year-old son Prince who is at the club having progressed through the Reds' academy.

The teenager has captained Liverpool's under-18 side this season, but his career is already showing surprising differences to his dad's.

Prince is a Wales youth international having been capped from under-15 to under-18 level.

Despite being born in Chester, he is eligible for the Dragons through his Welsh mother as well as qualifying to play for England and France.

Cisse Sr scored nine goals in 41 caps for Les Bleus and was part of their World Cup squads in both 2002 and 2010.

That is not the only difference between the duo, though, with Prince now plying his trade at centre-back.

The defender has also featured as a right-back and in midfield this term.

Cisse on difference to his dad

Speaking to Liverpool's media channels about his dad, he explained: "I’ve seen the highlights.

"It’s nice to watch him back, see what he was like. A bit of a crazy player with his mad hairstyles and all that.

"Me playing centre-back now, he was probably a striker that I wouldn’t want to play against. He seemed like a good player.

"I had pace but maybe my goalscoring ability probably wasn’t as good as his, hence why I’ve been moved to centre-back.

"He was lightning-quick but I’d say I’m maybe a bit quicker."

Family affair

Prince is not the only one of Cisse's sons forging his own career in football.

His older brother Cassius currently plays for League Two side Notts County.

The 19-year-old right-back has made two a appearances in the EFL Trophy for the Magpies this season.

Prince and Cassius' younger brother Marley, who turned 16 this month, is on the books of Nottingham Forest.

As for their father, Cisse won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FA Cup during his time at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, he later returned to England with both Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers.

Across his Premier League career, the forward scored 32 goals in 110 appearances in the competition.

Cisse also had spells in Greece, Italy, Qatar, Russia, Switzerland and the USA alongside featuring for Auxerre, Marseille and Bastia in his native France.

Having retired in 2021, the 44-year-old is currently a striker coach at former club Auxerre in Ligue 1.
