Senne Lammens is appreciative of the comparisons to Edwin van der Sar following the Dutchman’s comments about Manchester United’s current first-choice goalkeeper.
Manchester United beat Everton 1-0 on Monday night, with Benjamin Sesko scoring the only goal and Senne Lammens keeping a clean sheet.
Although Lammens didn’t have too much to deal with in the first half, as the scoreline remained 0-0, the 23-year-old had to deal with an aerial bombardment in the final 20 minutes as Everton searched for a late equaliser.
There was no way past Lammens and Sesko’s 71st-minute strike proved decisive as United took three points from their first-ever trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Senne Lammens responds to Edwin van der Sar comparisons
Lammens has received plenty of praise since his debut in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland.
There has been no reason whatsoever to bring Altay Bayindir back into the team, despite the Turk starting the season as United’s first-choice stopper ahead of Andre Onana.
Bayindir is now linked with Besiktas ahead of a potential summer transfer, but Lammens has gone from strength to strength in United’s first team to earn comparisons to club legend Edwin van der Sar.

Van der Sar was the guest on Monday Night Football, so he was available to offer his analysis of Lammens.
The legendary Dutch stopper told Lammens from the studio: “With your age, in your first year in the Premier League, you’re really doing incredibly well.
“And you have a good save, good hands, so compliments on your all-round game.”
Lammens has now responded to Van der Sar’s comments and the comparisons that have been made between the two goalkeepers.
Speaking during an appearance at Partington Central Academy, on behalf of the Manchester United Foundation, Lammens said (via ManUtd.com): “Edwin’s someone I’ve grown up looking towards and looking up to, so it’s always nice to hear from him, to hear positive words.
“Any comparison with him, or with Peter Schmeichel, is always nice to hear.
“We are quite similar – he’s from the Netherlands and I’m from Belgium – it’s not far from each other, so we also know a little bit about character and background.
“I think it’s quite similar, so it’s always nice to hear those nice words from him.”

Senne Lammens names Manuel Neuer as his biggest idol
Lammens has many goalkeepers to take inspiration from at United, such as Van der Sar and Schmeichel.
As a Belgian international, Lammens will also look up to Thibaut Courtois.
However, when asked about his role model, Lammens picked Bayern Munich and Germany stopper Manuel Neuer.
“My biggest idol was probably Manuel Neuer,” Lammens added, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“I take pride in being an all-round goalkeeper. That’s why I was such a big fan of his. He didn’t really have something that was clearly not the best thing in his game.”
