Sam Allardyce has already warned David Moyes about taking Everton on a break (opinion)

David Moyes is planning a warm-weather training camp for his Everton squad in March.

The Toffees only play three games in March having already been knocked out of the FA Cup, and also due to the international break, meaning there is time for a trip away from Finch Farm.

A handful of Everton fans online have already complained about this idea, arguing that it is undeserved after a run of seven games without a win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Sam Allardyce has now warned David Moyes about the dangers of a mid-season trip if results do not improve once Everton return.

What would your message to David Moyes be after the loss to United? 😡

What Sam Allardyce said about a mid-season trip as David Moyes plots a getaway

Coincidentally, Allardyce discussed the topic of a mid-season break on his No Tippy Tappy Football podcast on Tuesday, even before talk of Moyes’ plans emerged.

The former Everton boss spoke about how a trip abroad during the season can actually backfire and put more pressure on everybody.

Allardyce said: “I used to use a tactic. Win the game today lads – this will be a little team talk just before we go out – win today you can have four days off.

“That’s amazing, when you see that extra bit of woof – it’s playing with the psyche, you know what I mean? But I’ve said it across the board, when we’ve come back from Dubai lads, whatever you do, don’t lose this game.

“Because it’s not only the supporters, it’s the press. And, it seems, sometimes your directors (who say) well, that was a waste of money, wasn’t it?”

This is definitely something for Moyes to consider, but a break can also have a transformative impact on the season.

Just look at Arsenal in the 2023/24 campaign. Mikel Arteta took the Gunners to Dubai, before a run of seven consecutive wins followed once Arsenal returned to England.

The time Sean Dyche and Nathan Patterson clashed during a trip away

Mid-season breaks are not a new thing at Everton.

Sean Dyche took the Toffees away to Portugal – Quinta do Lago to be more precise – in March of the 2023/24 season.

However, it was far from a relaxing trip by the sounds of it, as the Daily Mail claimed Dyche jokingly slapped Nathan Patterson round the head harder than intended during a meal, which led to James Tarkowski having to intervene.

Dyche is said to have then apologised to the Scotland international after a period of reflection.

So, Moyes must be wary of making headlines for the wrong reasons when the Glaswegian takes Everton abroad.
