Man United have been linked to signing two Newcastle United players ahead of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United are hoping to secure Champions League football ahead of next season, not just for financial reasons, but also because it will enable them to attract the best players in the transfer market in the summer.
Man United plot £148m Newcastle raid
Tonali’s future is very uncertain at the moment, as several teams, including Man United and Arsenal, have been linked to signing the Newcastle star. He could help United replace Casemiro, who is due to leave the club at the end of the season.
However, Tonali isn’t the only Newcastle player linked with Man United, as a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes claims that the Red Devils also want to sign winger Anthony Gordon.
The report claims that Gordon would cost around £82m, and that Tonali would cost around £56m, meaning that Man United are plotting a huge £148m raid on the Magpies in the summer to overhaul Carrick’s squad ahead of hopefully a Champions League campaign next season.
Tonali has made 27 Premier League appearances for Eddie Howe’s side this season, and despite Howe making it clear that Tonali is happy at St James’ Park, reports linking him with a move in the summer are growing.
Gordon, on the other hand, has struggled in the Premier League this season, scoring just three goals in 21 games. However, it has been a very different story in the Champions League, as the England international is the second-top scorer, with 10 goals in 10 matches.
Man United face competition from Liverpool to sign Gordon
It is understood that Newcastle have no plans to cash in on Gordon, but, if the player himself decides to leave, especially if Newcastle don’t have Champions League football next season, the club may be forced to sell him, with the reported interest coming from Liverpool and Man United.
Gordon is a boyhood Liverpool fan, despite playing for Everton, but if Man United were able to convince him in the project at Old Trafford and under Carrick or whoever else it may be, they could swoop in and sign him ahead of their rivals, which would be a major coup.
