Villa to face Celta Vigo or Lille in Europa League

Aston Villa will face either Celta de Vigo or LOSC Lille in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, following the conclusion of the play-off round ties on Thursday.

Villa advanced automatically through to the last 16 of the competition having ended the league phase second in the table, with seven wins from their eight outings.

French outfit Lille overcame Serbian side Crvena Zvezda 2-1 over two legs in the last 32, while Spanish team Celta beat Thessaloniki-based PAOK 3-1 on aggregate to advance.

Unai Emery’s men will now take on one of these two sides over two legs for a place in the quarter-finals, with French side Lyon – who topped the league phase table – playing the other of the two aforementioned teams which the Villans do not draw.
