Manchester United expected to add two big names to manager wishlist

Manchester United are enjoying a great deal of success under interim manager Michael Carrick, but the Red Devils are looking at some big names who could potentially replace the former Man United center midfielder in Julian Nagelsmann and Roberto De Zerbi.

That’s according to transfer reporter Ben Jacobs, who dropped a lot of great nuggets in his appearance on The United Stand. Per Jacobs, Nagelsmann is open to joining the Premier League this summer, presumably after his World Cup duties with Germany are done, and both he and RDZ are expected to be on the club’s final managerial shortlist.

De Zerbi has Premier League experience and was excellent at Brighton for a period of time before things fell apart. He’s an effective coach, but he is risky since he has not shown he can ever succeed at the elite level, often rubs people the wrong way in the end, and has made a ton of controversial transfers at Marseille – like signing Mason Greenwood.

Nagelsmann is a much more attractive name. He was one of the best coaches in the world at such a young age as Ralf Rangnick’s prodigy at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, and he is a better version of Rangnick for the modern game, which should appeal to Man United since Rangnick did have great ideas – his execution and stubbornness were the problems.

Everyone raves about how easy Nagelsmann is to get along with, and he was only fired by Bayern Munich because of political issues in the background and unbridled greed and incompetence, with Thomas Tuchel proving to be a disaster of a replacement who took Bayern several steps backwards.

If Bayern are going to sign an international manager this summer and give up on the promising Carrick project, then Nagelsmann is the one guy who might make sense; he’s certainly better than an alternative like Roberto Martinez.
