The Man Utd star wants to remain at Old Trafford after he left the club on loan last summer.

Senne Lammens might be the new hero at Manchester United, but fellow goalkeeper Andre Onana has not given up hope on his own Old Trafford future.

Onana left United to join Turkish club Trabzonspor in September after United signed Lammens on deadline day of the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old was signed by Erik ten Hag and remained the first-choice under Ruben Amorim, before he lost his place at the start of the season.

United spent £44 million when they signed the Cameroon international from Inter three years ago, and he is still contracted for another two years. It is understood United could look to sell Onana at the end of the season, but the goalkeeper is determined to stay at the club and believes he will get the chance in pre-season to impress their new permanent head coach.

Onana keen to 'fight' for United future

Andre Onana is expected to report for pre-season training with Manchester United this summer before a final decision is made on his long-term future. Those plans could be dictated by the next permanent head coach, with United expected to appoint a successor to Ruben Amorim at the end of the campaign.

Speaking to Telecom Asia, former Cameroon international and Chelsea defender, Jeremi Njitap, insisted that close friend Onana is still eager to fight for his United future. "Listen, I know Andre very well and during his time at United there were a lot of things that were not right," he said.

"It wasn’t just him, and believe me, with the arrival of Michael Carrick, things are looking good for everyone, including him. He is clearly talented and his gifts are rare. The next thing is for him to go back there and fight for his spot. Andre has always excelled when faced with a challenge, and he thrives on situations where he is given a fair chance to prove himself.

He added: "In my career, I enjoyed playing in teams with big ambitions and big personalities. What that meant was that I always needed to be ready for a fight. If I had a few bad games, there was always someone knocking on the manager’s door asking for a chance because I wasn’t at my best. What that meant was that I had to stand up, be counted, and not leave. But that is for Andre to decide."
