Diogo Dalot says Ruben Amorim's legacy at Man Utd is felt 'every day' between games in 'strange' season

Diogo Dalot claims the lessons learned under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United are felt every day in what he describes as a ‘strange’ season.

Manchester United have enjoyed an improved run of results since Michael Carrick was appointed head coach in January, two weeks on from Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.

The Red Devils have won five matches and drawn one under Carrick, which has given United a boost in the Premier League standings as they sit in fourth place.

Carrick’s arrival has also coincided with several United players showing improved form. They include Diogo Dalot, Patrick Dorgu and Kobbie Mainoo.

Diogo Dalot reflects on the legacy Ruben Amorim left at Man Utd

Although United have enjoyed better results under Carrick, there will still be United players who have fond memories of their time working under Amorim.

Dalot was a regular under Amorim during the 14 months he spent at Old Trafford, which remains the case under Carrick, who has simplified his role at right back to much reward in recent matches.

The Portugal international is no stranger to criticism, but Carrick has seen no reason to drop him for Noussair Mazraoui since he returned to the club last month.

In a new interview with Sky Sports, Dalot was asked about the legacy Amorim left behind at United.

Dalot said: “It might sound very basic, but it’s reality. It doesn’t matter what you do on a matchday if you don’t come the next day [with same energy].

“This season is strange, we have so many training sessions. We need to get used to the feeling of training well. What’s going to happen on the weekend if you don’t do it every single day? If you don’t do it every day?

“That standard, you have to come to work energised and try to do it every single day, it’s hard. That’s the challenge and learning point for everyone this season.”

Dalot will hope to continue the standards he has shown in games like United’s 1-0 win over Everton, when he proved to be one of the best performers on the pitch.

Diogo Dalot makes WhoScored Team of the Week after Everton display

Dalot was one of the few players who played well in both the first and second halves, which helps explain why Carrick has started him at right back in all the games he has taken charge of since succeeding Amorim.

Often finding himself in attacking positions, Dalot was solid defensively, too. He made nine defensive contributions, including three interceptions, four clearances and seven recoveries.

That was enough to secure Dalot’s place in the WhoScored Team of the Week for game week 27.

As a result, Carrick is likely to stick with Dalot at right-back against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
