Leeds United asking price claim emerges after Hull City's declaration of transfer intent

Leeds United will reportedly have no hesitation sanctioning a permanent exit for Hull City loan star Joe Gelhardt this summer.

The 23-year-old faded from prominence at Elland Road having burst on to the scene as an exciting prospect in 2021.

He is currently in his second loan spell at Hull, who have breathed life into the career of the former England youth international.

This season, the versatile attacker has registered 11 goals and four assists over the course of 26 appearances in the Championship.

Leeds United’s stance

It has been suggested the Whites will seek a fee in the region of £3m and £5m for Gelhardt, who will have just one year remaining on his contract upon his return to West Yorkshire.

A lot may depend on which division Hull are in next season, as the Tigers are currently vying for promotion to the top flight.

It was in the Premier League that Gelhardt first caught the eye of the Elland Road faithful, dazzling with impressive cameos during the reign of Marcelo Bielsa.

Hull City’s declaration of intent

Earlier this week, as reported by Hull Live, Tigers sporting director declared the club’s intention to retain Gelhardt.

He said: "On the Joffy one, it's very clear. I've been very vocal, the chairman, the gaffer, Joffy knows how much we love him, how much we value him, how much we would love for him to continue his Hull City story. That's case closed on that one. We'll see what happens.

“We want to get to the stage where we have continuity in the group. We're not just a revolving door of players in and out and trying to find chemistry and trying to find relationships, hopefully bringing some back as we did with Joffy would help, whether that's permanent or a loan, we'll see come summer."
