Newcastle United have the same Premier League linesman for a second game in a row.

The Magpies were booed off in their last Premier League home game after losing 3-2 to Brentford, but have responded well with only one defeat in five.

Eddie Howe’s side have beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the Premier League and FA Cup, respectively, and won both Champions League play-off legs against Qarabag to progress into the last 16 9-3 on aggregate.

United’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend was a narrow one, as they left the Etihad Stadium feeling unfortunate not to come away with at least a point after dominating much of the second half.

Premier League confirm match officials for Newcastle United v Everton

Nico O’Reilly scored either side of Lewis Hall’s equaliser before Dan Burn saw what he thought was another equaliser ruled out for offside in first-half stoppage time.

And the linesman who raised his flag, Constantine Hatzidakis, will again be on Newcastle duty this weekend, having been assigned their clash with Everton at St James’ Park.

Hatzidakis is Stuart Attwell’s assistant alongside James Mainwaring. Dean Whitestone is fourth official while Nick Hopton and John Brooks are on VAR duty.

While Hatzidakis ultimately got the offside call right by the letter of the law, the incident sparked debate after replays showed Dan Burn was pushed into an offside position by Man City centre-back Ruben Dias as the ball came into the box.

Gallagher told Sky Sports’ Ref Watch: “This happened a couple of times this weekend, where a player probably committed a foul before the ball is in play so he can’t be punished.

“He [Ruben Dias] gives him a little shove and the ball is kicked in and by that point, Dan Burn is in an offside position. It’s a bit unlucky.

“The only thing they can do is Dan Burn says to the kicker ‘stop, wait and let me get back in position.”

It was an incident that left Burn wondering what would have happened if he had made “more of a meal of it”.

Burn said: “Yeah, I've not seen it again, to be honest. I felt sort of a push on the back and I think maybe if I'm a little bit better with it I could probably make more of a meal of it, but I'm not great at doing that!

“I've not seen it back, but as I said, someone said that I was pushed and it's quite hard to get back on the side once you've been sort of pushed offside. So it was just one of them.”
