Arsenal remain keen on signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are admirers of the Italy international and could look to step up their interest after being linked with a surprise move in the final hours of the winter transfer window.
Romano says there is a possibility that Tonali could leave Newcastle after the season amid interest from Premier League and Serie A clubs.
Manchester United and Juventus could both rival Arsenal in a potential race for the midfielder, who is under contract until the summer of 2028.
Arsenal Could Return for Sandro Tonali

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Arsenal could return for Tonali after the season, after initial conversations earlier this year.
The Gunners looked at signing the Italian in January, but the move never appeared realistic, as Newcastle were reluctant to sell one of their key players mid-season:
“I can guarantee that there is a possibility to see Sandro Tonali leaving Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
“Where to go? I mean with Arsenal, conversations, appreciation, for sure, but in January it was absolutely impossible, not even realistic, not even a negotiation, because Arsenal were never going to try and make something impossible happen.
“They know that Newcastle were never letting Tonali leave in the January transfer window. So that story was absolutely impossible.
“In the summer, it could be different. So let's see with Arsenal, but it's not only Arsenal. I can say that, for example, the player is being watched by Manchester United.
“Let's see what's going to happen also with Italian clubs. For example, Juventus dream of Sandro Tonali, but of course it's a very expensive deal.”
A move to Arsenal would make Tonali the first Newcastle player to join the Gunners since right-back Mathieu Debuchy in 2014, although the Magpies are expected to try everything they can to keep hold of the Italian.
Liverpool navigated Newcastle’s difficult negotiations last summer, as a deadline-day deal for striker Alexander Isak took nearly two months to complete.
Arsenal Eyeing a Busy Summer Window

After splashing out over £250m on new signings last summer, Arsenal appear to be heading for another busy transfer window amid their ongoing battle for the Premier League title.
As Romano further revealed in his video, the Gunners remain keen on signing a new midfielder after exploring their options late in January following an injury to Mikel Merino.
Mikel Arteta has also earmarked a new, young right-back as one of his priorities for the summer, who may compete for a starting spot with Jurrien Timber.
The Gunners are also expected to complete a permanent move for defender Piero Hincapie, who is spending the season on loan from Bayer Leverkusen.
How Could Tonali Suit Mikel Arteta’s Plans?
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta
With Arsenal expected to retain their interest in Tonali ahead of the summer, we asked ChatGPT how the Italian could suit Arteta’s vision in midfield:
Box-to-box balance – Sandro Tonali could add energy and mobility alongside Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, helping Arsenal maintain intensity across the pitch.
Progressive passing and control – Tonali’s ability to carry the ball and dictate tempo complements Martin Odegaard’s creativity, linking defence and attack efficiently.
Tactical versatility – Comfortable as a deep-lying playmaker or slightly advanced, he fits Mikel Arteta’s structured yet flexible midfield system, offering rotation and balance.
