CM: Thiaw linked with €60-70m move to Man Utd or Bayern – Milan’s sell-on regret

AC Milan could be left red-faced with Malick Thiaw being linked with several European heavyweights, and them having no interest in the matter.

In the summer, Thiaw was sold to Newcastle United for a fee of €35 million. Of course, that is a hefty sum, and to Milan, it was the value that was considered enough to see him depart. It is important to remember that players are largely not unsellable.

Instead, they have a value where if the offer surpasses this amount, it will be listened to. In Thiaw’s case, it was below €40m.

The sale still frustrates some, with the Rossoneri never really replacing the German with an apt alternative – Koni De Winter is a strong addition, but more was needed.

The problem

Now, people may become even more infuriated with the situation, thanks to a report from Calciomercato.com this afternoon.

After his fine start to life in England, where he has become central to Newcastle’s defence, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are both evaluating whether to make a move for the recent signing. Already, there is a belief that at least €60-70m will be required, too.

Unfortunately, this is where the Diavolo are sadly not involved.

As the report states, despite him being young with plenty of resale still, there was no resale clause inserted into his departure. So, if he leaves, there will be no money coming to Milan. A very frustrating error in the deal.
