Gary Neville was left stunned after former Everton manager Roberto Martinez tipped Liverpool to lose against West Ham on Saturday. Arne Slot's side host the Hammers at Anfield looking to make it three Premier League wins on the spin and boost their Champions League qualification hopes.

Successive victories against Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have seen the Reds cement their place in sixth, level on points with fifth-place Chelsea and three behind Manchester United in fourth. With 18th-place West Ham up next at home, Slot's men will be confident of adding another win to their tally.

But Martinez, 52, who is now the manager of the Portugal national team, believes that West Ham will turn up to Merseyside and come away with a shock 1-0 win.

When delivering his prediction on the latest episode of The Overlap, Martinez said: "What I think is, the manager at West Ham (Nuno) knows how to win at Anfield, and Liverpool struggle against teams that are very defensive. I fancy West Ham, 1-0, I don't think they’ll score many goals."

Former Manchester United defender Neville was shocked by Martinez's prediction, saying: "To win!? Wow. I can buy into that all day long. I wouldn't have gone with it, but I'm happy with it."

Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott, meanwhile, came to an agreement that Liverpool will win the game 2-0.

West Ham head into the trip to Liverpool in a rich vein of form, winning five and drawing two of their last eight matches across all competitions. However, the Hammers do still find themselves inside the relegation zone, two points behind 17th-place Nottingham Forest and four points adrift of Tottenham in 16th.

It's set up to be a crucial afternoon at both ends of the table and Liverpool head coach Slot is aware his team need to keep on winning to remain in touch for a Champions League spot.

Speaking in his pre-West Ham press conference, Slot said: "The way I see it is that it's another game for us and we're not so focused on other teams.

"As all managers always say, we are mainly focused on ourselves and we know that we need to win a lot of games because our competitors for these Champions League places are very good teams as well, win a lot.

"So we know we have to win a lot as well, and that’s where our focus is on and not so much about points, gaps, all the difference. Although we are aware of the league table, that’s for sure."
