One of Leeds United’s toughest remaining games awaits this weekend with a home clash against Manchester City under the Elland Road lights.
To come out of this four-game February run in the Premier League unbeaten would be a remarkable achievement for Daniel Farke.
After beating Nottingham Forest comfortably, Leeds have had three of the top five awaiting them for the remainder of the month. Up next is Manchester City at Elland Road.
Avoiding defeat here would be a huge result for Leeds. We haven’t picked up anything against Pep Guardiola’s side since Marcelo Bielsa recorded a stunning win away at the Etihad in April 2021.
Halting the progress of Man City in their pursuit of the title is an incredibly tall order. However, the idea of ‘Elland Road under the lights’ has many neutrals wondering if there’s a shock result in store.
On the Stick To Football podcast, Gary Neville and co gave their ‘Super Six’ predictions for this weekend. Included was Leeds’ home meeting with Man City.
“This is a big game, this is big,” Neville opened as his side of the table opted for a 2-0 Man City win.
“It’s one of those games where if Leeds score, it becomes completely different,” Portugal boss Roberto Martinez added.
“I feel like they [Leeds] can, I don’t see Man City winning all of their games, it think it’s a draw,” Ian Wright commented. “Give Leeds one.” Wright and Roy Keane agreed, before eventually opting for a 3-1 Man City win.
Can Leeds United cause a Premier League shock by getting result against Manchester City?
It’s perfectly reasonable to expect defeat here. We’re playing against one of the best sides in the country and in Europe right now, on the hunt for another league title.
However it’s another game at home under the lights where you’d be cautiously optimistic that we can cause them problems.
I’m by no means saying that we’ve got it in us to thump them like we did Chelsea. But, we know we’ve got it in us to bloody Man City’s nose – just look at the reverse fixture.
