Milner reveals contract thoughts as he loves life with Albion

But he says he is getting the message across as he helps the club's young players progress.

Milner could face Nottingham Forest on Sunday after setting a new record for Premier League appearances.

His current deal ends this summer and he said: “Things change very quickly in football.

“When you get to my age, things change very quickly as well.

“When I look at where I was last year, not being able to lift my foot for six months, to where I am this year, and even where I was maybe six weeks ago where I wasn't playing too many minutes and things aren't going too well and you're frustrated, and then I've played more minutes the last two games and you've played a part in a win, it's easier to say, ‘Yes, I'd love to do another year’.

“I'm pretty open at this moment in time.

“We haven't had any conversations, so obviously the club have to be interested as well.

“It's all right me saying I want to play another year if the club don't want you.

“I said earlier in the season, let's get to February and see where we're at, and I know we're there now, so we'll see what happens.

“I'm just doing my work every day.

“Hopefully the last few games have proved that I can still contribute on the field.”

Milner said he feels a good connection with the rest of the squad and added: “It is really a great group that I’m desperate to help, try to improve and push the younger boys as well.

“You have the days where it’s frustrating and things aren’t going your way.

“But then you see the messages going in, you see them doing better things, doing good habits and that’s nice.

“I think we’ve been unfortunate this year with the results we’ve had and the performances we’ve put in.

“We haven’t got what we deserved but that’s football at the highest level.

“It’s a work in progress and it’s credit to the club and the manager that the squad changes so much, that’s the way the club is and the formula for the club and its success.

“But when you are losing the quality of player that this club has lost in the last three or four years every year, to still be doing it and to still be churning out the players is an impressive thing.

“It’s something I’m enjoying being part of and trying to help these guys push on.”
