But James Milner says the head coach knows exactly what he wants.
Milner has played in more Premier League matches than anyone else while Hurzeler, 33, is in only his second top-flight season.
So it would appear a logical step for them to talk things over in the working week.
Milner told The Argus: “We speak a lot and I think he's got the balance bang on.
“He works his socks off. He works so hard.
“He's interested in all different areas, getting better all the time, wherever he can, and it's impressive to see what he's done since he has been here and the amount of work he puts in.
“He will know he always gets an honest opinion from me and I'm very aware that he's the manager and he will always make the final decision.
“He gets the balance bang on in terms of listening, taking things on board.
“He will speak to Welbs (Danny Welbeck) as well. He will speak to Pascal (Gross), speak to Dunky (Lewis Dunk), so I think it's important and he gets that balance really well in terms of he has that respect.
“I'm comfortable that I can be as honest with him as I think he knows what I'm saying is coming from the right place and I'm just trying to help.”
Ultimately, though, Hurzeler is his own man.
Milner added: “He's a strong character. H will take everything on board and take those opinions, but he's going make his own decision and go the way he thinks is right.”
