Tottenham on red alert over pacy winger from Saudi Pro League who recently had a one-year stint …

Tottenham could revive interest in a French winger they missed out on signing in the winter transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur showed plenty of intent last summer by bringing in attacking reinforcements. They spent big on the signings of Xavi Simons, Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus, whilst acquiring the loan services of Randal Kolo Muani.

However, apart from Kudus, none of the attackers have lived up to the expectations of the club and fans alike. Tel was not favoured by former boss Thomas Frank, while Simons has struggled to cope with the pace and physicality of the Premier League. Kolo Muani’s initial months were hampered by injury problems, and it took him more than six months to break his Premier League duck.

Knowing Tottenham’s problems going forward, the key decision-makers were keen on adding an attacker during the winter transfer window. It led to the Lilywhites exploring a move for Al-Ittihad winger Moussa Diaby. However, a move did not happen, and he stayed with Al-Ittihad.

Tottenham put on red alert as Moussa Diaby eyes a return to Europe

Moussa Diaby left Aston Villa to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2024. He played one full season with Aston Villa, featuring in all 38 Premier League games and helping them clinch a top-four spot. The French speedster has been a fantastic performer for Al-Ittihad, notching eight goals and 29 assists in just 59 appearances.

On the verge of concluding his second season in the Middle East, a report from TEAMtalk claims that Diaby is eyeing a return to Europe in the summer, putting Tottenham and several clubs on red alert. Aston Villa are also looking to re-sign him, while intermediaries have informed Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid of Diaby’s potential availability.

Diaby has certainly impressed during his spell at Al-Ittihad. He boasts of Premier League experience, having notched 10 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions during his only season at Villa Park. The France international’s explosive pace, versatility, dynamism, creativity and goalscoring ability would enhance Tottenham’s attack. In addition, he would add much-needed directness to Spurs’ attack and improve their squad depth.

Having sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, the Lilywhites tried to sign a replacement but to no avail. Diaby could be that option to replace Johnson in the summer, but for Spurs to give themselves a chance to sign him, they must preserve their top-flight status as a priority.
