Photo: Kelvin Lister-Stuttard“It’s been good, I’m settling in well.“The club have been fantastic in helping me sort the boring side of stuff out if you like, the off the field stuff. But in terms of the footballing side, yeah, I’ve settled in really well.“I think it's a really positive group to come into. I was unsure as to how the group would be, obviously considering the league position, but everybody's been enthusiastic, positive and that belief is growing that we can turn things around.”Experience of being relegated with Southampton in 2023“Yeah, obviously I’ve been in this position before.“There were a lot of things maybe that weren't quite right, and I think wasn't the only factor [standards dropping] why we got relegated, but played a big part in it.“But we've got a lot of experienced players here who are able to make sure those standards are right and I think you need to do those little bits, the daily bits right, in order to produce the results that we can.”One off matching David Beckham’s free-kick record“Of course it would be a huge achievement, something I never thought I would do, and to be this close is obviously really, really special.“It's a good reward for all the hard work that I've done, but I've not done it yet, so I need to keep practicing and to ensure that I give myself a good chance to do it.“Of course it would mean a lot, but I'm not focused on that. I think if you put too much thought into it, it consumes you a little bit, you know, it's more so about performing and doing my best for Burnley and ensuring that I can play a part in hopefully what will be a positive end to the season.”The Burnley Express has launched a new WhatsApp channel to bring the latest news, analysis and team & injury updates directly to your phone. If it means defending for your life, great. You know, that's part of being a team player and hopefully I can play my part in that.Playing regular Premier League football again“I think it's the first period in my career for a long time where I've not had that regular sort of game time, so to be the other end of it sort of gave me a chance to kind of assess my career and where I'm at and the things I need to change.“It's given me that hunger to want to be back out there and doing what I can do best.”How does it feel being in a relegation fight with West Ham?“It's a bit of a strange position, I think, in some ways.“But, you know, I've been purely focused on, in the last few months myself, ensuring that I'm in the best physical position, the best mental position to go out and take the opportunity.“The opportunity is here at Burnley and I'm looking forward to doing whatever I can to help the team survive in the Premier League.”How are you fitness-wise, given your lack of minutes at West Ham?“Being in the position I was at West Ham allowed me to focus more on the fitness side of stuff and to ensure that I was going above and beyond what was needed to be ready.“The manager and the fitness staff have been great with me in terms of settling me in and ensuring that I'm ready to go whenever I'm needed.”Chelsea assist“I was buzzing. I mean, it's kind of a good reward, if you like, for some of the work that I feel like I've done in the last few months behind the scenes that maybe people don't see.“So, yeah, good reward for the hard work and more importantly I was able to contribute to an important point.“I keep thinking about the chance afterwards too [Jacob Bruun Larsen’s miss]. But no, the work that we’re doing with the set pieces is really positive and hopefully there’ll be more to come.”What do you make of the recent set piece trend?“I think it's always been deemed as one of the easiest ways to score, if you like. But now you see a lot of teams benefiting from set pieces.“Arsenal's record is obviously unbelievable and the long throw is coming back into it. So I think it will come around again and these sort of trends will happen. But as a set piece taker, it's good to work for.”Brentford gameA tough match. I think they've taken a lot of people by surprise this season. But, yeah, a team that we'll respect for sure. But the way that we've worked this week in terms of the intensity and the structure has been positive off the last couple of results. So, looking forward to a good challenge. What does your future look like beyond this summer?“Who knows? It'll be an interesting summer, I think.“I'll be just looking forward now to focusing on the last remainder of the season. It's been a challenging one in many ways, but I almost feel refreshed coming here that I'm in an environment where I feel appreciated.“I feel wanted and respected and I'll be looking forward to repaying that to the club for giving me the opportunity.”Continue Reading
