Michael Carrick faces 'big' Man Utd 'decision' around in-form attacker for Crystal Palace match, claims Steve Bruce

Manchester United legend Steve Bruce has insisted that Michael Carrick has a “conundrum” over whether or not to start Benjamin Sesko against Crystal Palace.

Benjamin Sesko climbed off the bench for the fifth time in his last five Premier League matches under Michael Carrick and made a real impact on Monday.

The 22-year-old Slovenian forward linked up superbly well with Bryan Mbeumo to break the deadlock in the second half of Manchester United’s clash with Everton.

Sesko produced a stunning finish into the bottom right corner of the net after a Man Utd counterattack against Everton and his opener proved to be the winner on Monday.

Steve Bruce’s view on Michael Carrick’s challenge with Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko for the Crystal Palace match

Benjamin Sesko has netted three times in his last five Premier League matches since Michael Carrick’s appointment as Manchester United interim head coach in January.

The Slovenia international has been dropped to the bench in recent weeks after United legend Carrick has deployed Bryan Mbeumo as his lone forward option.

Sesko’s stunning run of form in recent weeks has left interim boss Carrick with the big call now over whether or not to start the summer signing against Crystal Palace.

Benjamin Sesko’s turnaround has been pretty stunning! Should he start the next game?

“To be fair, I don’t think he had a kick apart from [scoring] the goal,” Steve Bruce said on talkSPORT, as per the Metro.

“But there’s that conundrum for Michael now, who was saying, ‘How can I get him in the team? Do I leave him in the team? Do I start him?’

“Big decision, but you wouldn’t want to alter anything at the moment. If he keeps coming on and he’s fresh and people are tired, then he’s got the ability to score and he has done a great finish, I have to say, a great finish.”

Gary Neville is not as mixed as Steve Bruce over what Man Utd legend Michael Carrick must do with Benjamin Sesko

Sesko has taken his Man Utd goalscoring tally to eight and picked up one assist in his 24 matches across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign so far.

Gary Neville spoke out about Sesko after the Everton match and the Sky Sports pundit believes that the striker must start against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

“For Sesko, now on Sunday against Crystal Palace, I think he starts,” he said on The Gary Neville Podcast, as per Sky Sports.

“I haven’t always been convinced about him this season, but what you have to do is move with what you see.

“United have just struggled in the last couple of games against West Ham and Everton, he looks like he’s growing in his game and in his body, and he looks like he’s got more power in his performance, his confidence is high.

“I think Michael Carrick starts him. It would kill the lad if he didn’t start on Sunday.”

Fourth-place Man Utd and 13th-place Crystal Palace will kick off their Premier League clash at 2pm UK time in the UK.
