“Nowhere near” – Scott Parker makes brutally honest verdict on Leeds United and Sunderland

Leeds United and Sunderland are the two promoted clubs that have the best chance of staying up, while Burley struggle in 19th.

When we clinched promotion back to the Premier League, we had to deal with so many neutrals saying how big the gap is) between the Championship and top flight.

The gap was never too big. The problem in the two seasons prior was the horrific investment and naive coaching implemented by those six clubs – something Leeds and Sunderland have gone against the grain with.

Burnley manager Scott Parker shares brutal verdict on why he can’t match Leeds United and Sunderland

Sunderland, then Leeds are looking in a good position to stay in the division with 30-plus points on the board with 11 games to play.

Down in 19th, Burnley have not been able to build on their record-breaking runner-up campaign in the Championship. They’re eight adrift of safety with time running out for Scott Parker to mount any sort of comeback, or even prove he’s worth keeping his job.

They do have four points in their last two, though, beating Crystal Palace and snatching a draw at Chelsea. Parker believes the difference between his Clarets side, and Leeds and Sunderland is home performances.

“When you look at the three promoted clubs, all three have probably been very similar away from home in terms of points collected,” Parker said on Friday. “The other two, which I mention, the difference has been home form.

“Our home form has been nowhere near as good, and we certainly haven’t picked up enough points at home really for many reasons, certainly over the last couple of weeks.”

Leeds United need Elland Road rocking for Manchester City clash and rest of season

If we want to keep ourselves clear of relegation trouble, we’re going to need Elland Road as rocking as it currently is.

Parker has identified it as a key weakness of his side relative to us. That should be even more fuel for Leeds to keep it up. We have such a unique asset here in Elland Road’s atmosphere – no one else in the relegation battle has that on their side.

Against Man City, we’re going to need that for 90 minutes to stand a chance. If it’s flat, or Pep Guardiola’s side make it flat, it’s likely only going to end one way.
