Manchester United are 'concerned' about losing Harry Maguire, having already confirmed the exit of the experienced Casemiro. Maguire’s current deal at United is set to expire at the end of the season, and there continue to be rumours about whether or not the England international will sign an extension.
United activated the additional 12-month option in Maguire’s contract in January last year, which will now expire at the end of the current campaign.
Maguire, 32, has spent a large portion of the season on the sidelines recovering from injury, but has become a key player at the heart of United’s defence since Michael Carrick was named as the club’s interim head coach last month.
The England international, who turns 33 next week, is currently able to speak to clubs outside England about a pre-contract agreement to leave United as a free agent should he wish to do so. He has already turned down approaches from Brendan Rodgers’ new Saudi club Al Qadsiah and AC Milan this year.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, there is “concern” from United that they may see Maguire leave the club at the same time as Casemiro, with the Red Devils reluctant to lose so much experience.
The Brazilian confirmed earlier this season that he would be leaving United at the end of his contract this summer, which will see the Red Devils save millions of pounds.
Casemiro is currently on £300,000 per week at United, and not handing the midfielder a new contract on the same salary will see the club save £15.6million per year.
It remains to be seen what will happen with Maguire’s future, with United said to be keen to hand the defender a new deal but would want to see his £180,000 per week wage lowered. The England international, however, wants some security in terms of length of contract, so that could also prove to be a stumbling block.
Carrick has already outlined the importance Maguire has to his plans at United, emphasising the defender’s experience and character in the dressing room and on the pitch.

"Harry's an impressive character,” Carrick said on Friday. “He's had a great career so far. Hopefully there's a lot more to come.
“He has been here in the journey and the experiences that he's had, certainly since he's been here and with England as well. I think it shows exactly what he is.
"I think we all know the player that he is and what he's capable of doing. Again, the other night there [at Everton], I thought he was fantastic.
“Experience helps and his attributes help with that and his character, his willingness to put himself out there and he is really impressive and he has been really important for us.".
