Benjamin Sesko scored a brilliant goal for Manchester United against Everton, and Michael Carrick has been reflecting on the strike.

Manchester United haven’t been impressive in the past two games, but Michael Carrick’s side have managed to get the job done anyway.

Against Everton, it was Benjamin Sesko’s blistering pace that handed United three points and a fifth win in six games under Carrick.

Sesko’s brilliance is something United haven’t yet extracted the most from, but Carrick loves that his striker offers.

Michael Carrick speaks on Benjamin Sesko’s goal for Manchester United

Sesko has yet to start under Carrick since he took charge in January, but he is closer than ever to earning that spot.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of Sunday’s game, Carrick has hailed Sesko’s ability and the different offensive threat he offers the team.

“It’s great to know we’ve got that in the team [Sesko’s speed]. We want to attack, be up the pitch, and have control of the game, but having the threat of that gives the boys a lot of confidence.”

Carrick was then asked whether it reminded him of goals scored by United under Sir Alex Ferguson. Despite refusing to make comparisons, he did acknowledge the similarities.

“It was certainly eye-catching [Sesko goal], we’ve seen it enough over the years, I’ve been part of it with Wayne, with Cristiano, Nani, and Ji-Sung in so many different ways. It’s always part of this club.”

Scoring goals like this is the United DNA, what made many fall in love with the club. Darren Fletcher has been teaching his U18s this style, and Carrick getting it from the first team is a real flashback to the glory days.

Carrick on Sesko starting

In the interview, Carrick was also asked about Sesko’s chances of starting and whether his performances are giving him a selection headache.

“It’s definitely not a headache, in terms of the results, how the group is, their togetherness”, Carrick admitted.

“Ben has made a big impact. The way he’s training, his attitude, he’s in good spirits, it’s definitely not a headache, but obviously a decision to be made, but it’s not made difficult.”

Carrick hasn’t committed to starting Sesko ahead of this weekend, which creates real uncertainty for Oliver Glasner’s preparations, considering how different the options are.

But given his recent success, Sesko should be handed a start.
