Yaser Asprilla

Leeds United could be handed a shot at signing Yaser Asprilla this summer as Girona ‘seem to have lost faith’ in the player.
That’s according to Sport, who cover the 22-year-old today. The Spanish newspaper reports that things are not going well for the forward.
The Colombian winger is Girona’s record signing, having joined from Watford for €18m a year and a half ago. But he ‘never managed to adapt’ to life in Spain. Nor did he manage to meet the expectations he generated.
While there were flashes of quality, they came irregularly and that continued into this season. Patience was exhausted and he was finally loaned to Galatasaray. That came after a tussle with British clubs for his signature. Leeds United were not one of them at the time.
Türkiye struggles
Things have not improved in Türkiye, though. Asprilla is yet to find his best level, playing just 176 minutes of 630 available.
That’s just one start in seven games and zero minutes in the Champions League. The latter came despite them making six changes to the team last time around.
Galatasaray don’t seem keen, and neither are Girona. Their sporting director has already told Asprilla that he needs “to look for new projects”.
Leeds United in the mix
Sport say the latest rumours place the Colombian back in England, with Leeds.
The newspaper offers nothing more than that for now. Leeds United are just thrown in as a suggestion of the next club potentially waiting to give Asprilla a shot.
What they do say, though, is that it is clear in Montilivi that they seem to have lost faith in their record signing. While his talent is undeniable, they’ve never seen the best version of the player that they signed.
Now they want rid and there’s a clear hope Leeds or someone else will take him. That hands Daniel Farke’s side an opportunity, should they wish to take it.
