WOLVES FANS TALK VICTORY AGAINST ASTON VILLA

DAVE

Proud. Absolutely proud of that last night

Relegation might be staring us in the face, but THAT is the Wolves we’ve been crying out for. Fight. Heart. Togetherness. João Gomes smashing one in off the bar. Rodrigo Gomes sealing it in stoppage time. Derby day 2-0. Job done. We might be going down but we’re not going down as the worst side in Premier League history! And how good was it seeing Rob Edwards charging down that touchline? That passion. I want our manager to really care and that out pouring of emotion shows just how much it means to him and all of us! Villa came with Champions League dreams. They left Molineux with nothing AGAIN

If this is how we’re going down, we’re going down swinging. And with that spirit, we’ll be back. One nil to the Championship we sang lol No Two nil to the Wolves.

THAT FRIDAY FEELING!!!

The 1st half we can take as a warmup. But that 2nd half we went full pelt. The pack played like a concord. Knowing the destination and getting there with ultra force!! There was no giving up the fight.

Man of the match is Gomes but I can’t pick between Joao or Rodrigo.

Proud, honestly. Not just because it was Villa, but because it finally looked like Wolves again.

We are in a scrap, everyone knows it. But on a derby night you either hide or you stand up. We stood up. We played with bite, we won our duels, and we looked like a group that actually cares what that badge means. João Gomes cracking one in off the bar was pure Molineux chaos, the sort of moment that lifts the whole place. Then Rodrigo Gomes killing it in stoppage time, proper limbs everywhere.

And the touchline mattered too. Seeing the gaffer lose himself in it, charging down the line, fists pumping, it hit home. That is what we want. A manager who feels it like we feel it.

Villa turned up chasing Europe. They went home with nothing and a reminder that Molineux is not a soft visit, not for them, not ever.

Let’s go down with fighting spirit not a whimper. Two nil to the Wolves.

Where do we start with this reaction to the Aston Villa game?

The first half was not a memorable watch. Both teams looked hesitant and we saw the same issues we have talked about all season. We never really got going, and our passing and crossing were not at the standards we expect. Rob had work to do at half-time to get us playing.

One thing that has to be mentioned is the refereeing. In that first half, it was poor. Wolves players were booked for challenges, while Villa seemed to get away with similar tackles.

The second half was a different story. We looked like we had woken up. The passing was sharper, the press was better, and we started to cause Villa problems. Rob clearly made a tweak, and it worked.

Just after the hour mark, we got the opener. João Gomes smashed it in to give us a deserved lead, with Armstrong providing a great layoff.

After that, we defended well and put our bodies on the line to keep Villa out. They came close near the end, but from that chance we broke forward. Mane went on a brilliant run, the ball ended up with Rodrigo Gomes, and after a Villa defender blocked the first effort, we grabbed the second to put the game to bed. Proper team play, and something we have not seen enough of this season.

We have now beaten Derby’s record, so we can put that to bed. Not the worst Premier League side.

Another game is coming soon. If we perform like we did tonight, we can get another decent result. Keep the faith. It is nice to write about a positive result.

Player of the match: João Gomes

My fan reaction is going to be short and sweet.

It felt very end to end. I did not agree with the line-up again, it felt too defensive. Mosquera in the first half was more like an actor than a footballer at times, and it was getting frustrating.

The second half was still end to end, but once we finally played on the front foot, we scored. Great goal. As usual, Rob Edwards left the subs too late and it got a bit hairy for a while, but Rodrigo Gomes, the sub I have been crying out to start, secured the win.

We are now officially NOT the worst Premier League team. We can play football, but I still have questions about Rob Edwards, I am afraid.

Well done, lads!

MOTM: João Gomes

Performance: 8/10

Best moment: Rodrigo Gomes scoring to seal the win

Remember the date, Friday 27th February. Wolves are virtually relegated with only one league win so far this season. Twenty-nine games, one win and only 10 points. Aston Villa having a truly fantastic season on 51 points.

There is surely only one outcome tonight a Villa win!

But step up the Wolves on a miserable night in the rain, 30000+ were there to see a brilliant Wolves win. The team selection raised eyebrows with Joao Gomes back alongside Andre and no Tolu in attack.

The first half was evenly balanced with no side dominating. Wolves couldn’t get their range with their forward passes to Armstrong who didn’t have a decent ball in the first half. Sa made a couple of smart saves keeping Villa out.

Every Wolves player was up for the contest and if one player was beaten another stepped straight in to complete the tackle. Wolves didn’t give Villa any chance to settle into a rhythm.

Second half and Mosquera had been booked in the first half and would be walking a tightrope in the second half to not get a Red! As the game went on Wolves grew in confidence. A fast break down the right, Tchatchoua crossed the ball and Armstrong takes the pace off the ball, Joao Gomes strides up and drives the ball into the roof of the net off the underside of the bar. No chance for Martinez.

Villa stunned this wasnt going to plan. Emery used five substitutes, got three players booked but still Wolves did not drop their dogged determination. Even when the fourth official put up the board showing 7 minutes Wolves were not going to be beaten. On 98 minutes Rodrigo Gomes picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box from another Wolves fast break and swivelled before driving the ball in off Martinez. 2-0 to Wolves to end a glorious night.

Wolves onto 13 points, passing the 11 points lowest ever total posted by Derby.

Wolves beating the Villa, priceless.

Next up Liverpool at the Molineux on Wednesday. After tonight bring it on.

Oh it’s a lovely feeling writing something positive. Wolves were well worth their three points tonight.

What a difference it makes to a weekend.

Absolutely delighted and over the moon.

Match thoughts: This was our best game so far this season, better than Arsenal in my opinion. But we cannot let this slip now.

Rob Edwards picked his strongest line-up for once, and it clicked. It worked.

Man of the match: João Gomes. His control in midfield was brilliant, and he scored the first goal in a massive win, so he is my clear pick.

Match performance: 8/10. We were poor in spells, but when it mattered we scored, and we took our chances really well.
