Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has once again made it abundantly clear that he wants to join Sevilla permanently, but Newcastle United hold the final decision.
ABC report on the Greek goalkeeper today as his future moves toward a summer resolution. He joined Sevilla on loan from Newcastle last summer.
That move has quickly proved a smart one, with Vlachodimos establishing himself as the club’s first‑choice goalkeeper. Sevilla want to keep him, and multiple reports have already highlighted their interest.
Sport Witness have covered most of them, with several in February alone detailing the situation.
That includes sources close to the player going public with their wishes and a report stating that Vlachodimos will force his way out of Newcastle if he needs to this summer.
How he feels since move to Spain
That continues with ABC today, he’s been speaking to the newspaper about various things. That includes his future.
According to the newspaper, his current plan is to ‘worry later’ about what the summer may hold. In fact, he ‘postpones the question’ when it is put to him and sticks to the script, perhaps given to him by Sevilla.
That script, though, does make one thing clear. The 31-year-old is very happy at Sevilla at the moment.
“No, I’m very happy at Sevilla,” he said.
“I think it’s clear that I enjoy playing every match with this team. I’ll try to give my best every day, and that makes me feel very happy.
“I spoke with the manager, the president, and the sporting director about the club’s situation in LaLiga. But for me, the most important thing from day one is that this experience has been a gift since I arrived.
“I just wanted to get back to playing and be able to give my all to the team. This place is exactly as I imagined it.”
Newcastle United in control
His situation is very much in Newcastle’s hands, as they’ll decide his price come the summer. Given his contract at St James Park runs until 2028, that could prove problematic.
It remains to be seen what their plans are, and it seems Vlachodimos is waiting for that answer alongside everyone else.
“The truth is, I still have a contract with Newcastle and they decide, I don’t know what will happen in the future,” he added.
“I really don’t think I can answer these questions about the future. I truly don’t know what’s going to happen this summer. Honestly, I have a contract with Newcastle.
“I don’t know what their plans will be when the season ends. We’ll see what happens then. I really don’t have an answer.”
