'I don't really like': Tim Sherwood doesn't see the 'merit' in West Ham player

West Ham United forward Valentin Castellanos has not yet done enough to impress Tim Sherwood, it seems.

Castellanos has made an impact since joining West Ham United from Lazio, scoring two goals in nine games thus far.

Who will prove to be a better signing and why?! 🤔

Still, the impact Taty has made goes far beyond the goals. Indeed, Castellanos has been praised for helping West Ham press from forward positions.

Sherwood, however, just doesn’t see the merit in having the Argentine in the side.

Sherwood prefers Callum Wilson to Taty Castellanos

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ Team Talks ahead of West Ham’s clash with Liverpool, Sherwood said: “Castellanos I don’t really like. I don’t see the merit in him but he’s done okay. I just think Callum Wilson’s a better striker than him in my opinion.”

While the former Tottenham boss does concede that Castellanos has played reasonably well, he does not see the merit in starting him over Callum Wilson.

That misses the point entirely, frankly.

How impressed have you been?

And do you see a long-term future for him at the club?

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Goals aren’t always the most important thing in the world, particularly when the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen are stepping up on that front.

Anyone who would have watched West Ham operate with Wilson and Niclas Fullkrug as their striking options at the start of the season would have been crying out for a player with more energy to arrive.

Taty Castellanos has helped transform West Ham United

Wilson is clearly a much more celebrated goalscorer. This is a man who has played for England at the World Cup and for Newcastle United in the Champions League, after all.

However, it’s hard to imagine West Ham’s recent revival being at all possible unless Castellanos and Pablo Felipe had arrived during the January transfer window.

Castellanos and Pablo have given West Ham a new dimension up front, helping Nuno Espirito Santo’s side press much more effectively.

Wilson, as good as he is in front of goal, just cannot offer that over the course of a whole game.

Questions remain as to whether Taty can ever prove prolific at Premier League level. West Ham, however, haven’t needed him to be.
