Newcastle star taken ill in vomiting ordeal moments after half-time

Newcastle United's Jacob Ramsey was at the centre of a bizarre substitution before the second-half of their clash against Everton.

The English midfielder was all set to resume the game before he was seen vomiting on the pitch.

Ramsey, who was still retching as he returned to the tunnel, was taken ill and immediately replaced by Joe Willock.

On talkSPORT commentary, ex-Sunderland striker Micky Gray said: "I've never seen anything like it. He must've been asked if he was OK.

"He took his position on the pitch and started retching. He was doing it as he went down the tunnel. Trying to get sick every two seconds.

"I do hope he's OK."

Ramsey was a doubt ahead of the game at St James' Park due to a tight hamstring.

But he started and scored his first home goal for the Magpies with a deflected strike to draw the Toon level.

However, after an appalling Nick Pope error, Everton are leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Beto and Jarrad Branthwaite.

The second half was about to get underway with Ramsey all set to start.

But the Englishmen then headed to the sidelines and could be seen vomiting all over the pitch.

Kieran Trippier and Eddie Howe looked concerned before he headed straight down the tunnel.

In the first 45 minutes, Ramsey was probably Newcastle's best player, full of energy and drive and providing the one moment of quality that got the home side level.

Everton arrived on Tyneside off the back of a defeat to Manchester United, but they opened the scoring from a set piece.

James Garner delivered a corner from the left that Jarrad Branthwaite brilliantly glanced on at the near post.

It crashed in off the far post, and the visitors grabbed the lead.
