Newcastle player who looked 'lost' against Everton & summer signing Magpies must make

It's now five defeats in six Premier League games for the Magpies. Here's how the players rated:

Newcastle (4-3-3):

3 Pope: Shocking mistake that led to second Everton goal. Signing a goalkeeper again feels like a must this summer.

6 Trippier: Did OK against the tricky Ndiaye. Barked out orders throughout in a bid to drive improvement from his underperforming teammates.

5 Thiaw: Never looked comfortable with Beto and was relieved to see the striker hit the bar after being robbed of possession.

5 Burn: Like Thiaw, struggled with Beto and Everton's forward line. Rough afternoon for Newcastle's centre-halves.

6 Hall: Tenacious and tried to get forward in the second half. Wasn't helped by the struggle of those in front and around.

6 Tonali: Denied a stunning late equaliser by brilliance of Pickford. Tried to drive Newcastle on.

7 Ramsey: Scored the goal and was Newcastle’s best player in the first half. Was forced off before the second half got underway after being violently sick when he returned to the pitch from the dressing room.

4 Woltemade: Looked lost in midfield and was moved up front after half an hour. Marginal improvement but replaced before the hour.

6 Joelinton: Like Woltemade, looked uncomfortable out of position in the opening half an hour. Improved after being moved inside.

5 Elanga: A couple of bursts down the right but nothing in terms of final product. Still needs to significantly improve.

4 Gordon: Woe against former club continues. Nothing came off for him in attack and he gave away the ball for Everton’s winner.

Substitutes:

6 Willock (for Ramsey. 46): Did OK without ever managing to get a grip of the game.

5 Barnes (for Woltemade, 56): Scooped over with one good chance inside the box.

6 J.Murphy (for Elanga, 56): Scored leveller but Newcastle joy was short lived.

Wissa (for Trippier, 75): N/A

Osula (for Gordon, 86): N/A

Subs not used: Ramsdale, Botman, Shahar, A Murphy

Everton: Pickford 8, O'Brien 7, Tarkowski 8, Brathwaite 8, Mykolenko 7, Gana 7, Garner 8, Dewsbury-Hall 8 (Keane, 89), Ndiaye 7, McNeil 7 (Armstrong, 81), Beto 8 (Barry, 74)

Subs not used: Travers, Patterson, George, Dibling, Rohl, Iroegbunam

Man of the Match: Beto. Missed big second half chance but troubled Newcastle's defenders throughout and Everton played off him.
