David Moyes finally ends 12-year hoodoo in Newcastle 2-3 Everton

Everton have now won seven out of 14 away games in the Premier League this season.

The thrilling 3-2 victory over Newcastle saw Everton move up to 40 points and helped fans forget about the run of seven games without a win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Not only that, but success on Tyneside also means David Moyes has now achieved back-to-back wins at St James’ Park for the first time ever as manager of the Toffees.

Who was your Man of the Match from that incredible game? 🤩

Not sure how you're going to only pick one…

David Moyes makes history in charge of Everton

The Glaswegian has overseen 569 games in charge of Everton across two stints, but never before until now has he managed to record two wins in a row against Newcastle on Tyneside.

St James’ Park was a bogey ground for Moyes across his 11 years at Everton before leaving for Manchester United in 2013, winning just twice at that stadium.

Even those two wins came over a decade apart.

The 62-year-old first defeated Newcastle on their turf in October 2002 thanks to goals from Kevin Campbell and David Unsworth, but he had to wait until January 2013 until Leighton Baines and Victor Anichebe fired Everton to another victory at St James’ Park. Both were 2-1 wins.

Moyes now seems to have figured out how to handle the Magpies.

A header from Charly Alcaraz sealed a 1-0 win for the Toffees on this ground last season.

Now, goals from Jarrad Branthwaite, Beto – who Martin Keown defended – and Thierno Barry have finally helped Moyes record successive wins at St James’ Park for the first time in over 12 years as manager of Everton.

Everton fans enjoy double delight at St James’ Park for first time since 2014

Whilst this is the first time Moyes himself has recorded successive victories at St James’ Park in charge of Everton, the Toffees did actually achieve the feat in 2014 when Roberto Martinez finished off the job.

Before replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Moyes oversaw that aforementioned 2-1 win at Newcastle thanks to goals from Baines and Anichebe.

Roberto Martinez then steered Everton to a 3-0 win at St James’ Park in March 2014 during his first season after replacing the Glaswegian.
