Grealish and Branthwaite single out one Everton star after Newcastle win

Everton defeated Newcastle United 3-2 in a dramatic encounter at St James Park on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes’ side produced another brilliant performance on the road and have now moved onto 40 points.

There were a number of good Everton performances across the pitch, but Jack Grealish and Jarrad Branthwaite both singled out Jordan Pickford.

They were both stunned by his remarkable save against Sandro Tonali.

Branthwaite said post-match: “I think it’s the best save I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how he’s pulled it off. When he does things like that, it’s magic. He’s kept us in the game.”

Grealish added: “Naaaaa what a win and performance!! Absolutely unreal from everyone!! @Jpickford1 save of the season. UTFT!!!!.”

Pickford’s save was ultimately a match-winning one, and now the Toffees are in a really strong position to qualify for Europe this season.

Moyes has always maintained that Europe is the goal and with 10 games remaining of the season, his side are only three points behind seventh-placed Brentford.

The key will be improving the home form, as today was further evidence that Everton are one of the very best away from home when they allow the home side to have the ball.

They’re much more comfortable playing a counter-attacking brand of football, so the real test comes on Tuesday.

That’s when Moyes’ side welcome relegation-threatened Burnley to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in what could be a season-defining clash.
