Massive Victory for Everton as Liverpool Trash West Ham United 5-2 At Anfield

Everton Football Club secured a deserved 3–2 victory against a strong opponent, Newcastle United, away at St. James’ Park, moving up to eighth position in the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday afternoon, news—ng reports.

The Toffees opened the scoring in the 19th minute courtesy of a header from Jarrad Branthwaite to make it 1–0. Newcastle United needed to find a leveller, which paid off in the 32nd minute through Jacob Ramsey to make it 1–1.

Everton, in their last five matches before the tie against Newcastle, had recorded just one win, and going into this match on Saturday, many believed it could once more strengthen their position in the middle of the table after their number nine striker, Beto, put them back in the lead at 2–1 in the 39th minute before half-time.

With eight minutes to go before added time, the hosts equalised courtesy of Jacob Murphy in the 82nd minute.

But that celebration was cut short after Everton’s Thierno Barry scored the winning goal for the Toffees with an attempt from very close range into the bottom-left corner.

Saturday’s defeat for Newcastle has sent shockwaves through Eddie Howe and his team, who have not been in form domestically.

The Magpies are 12th on the log with 36 points, while Everton is eighth with 40 points.

Elsewhere, Arne Slot’s Liverpool trashed West Ham United 5–2 at Anfield, giving hope for a top-four finish.

The fifth-placed Reds, with 48 points, dominated the game largely in the first half with three goals from Hugo Ekitike (5′), Virgil van Dijk (24′) and Alexis Mac Allister (43′).

Meanwhile, the visitors tried to overturn the result after the break as goals from Tomas Soucek in the 49th minute and Valentin Castellanos in the 75th minute were not enough to cancel out the two additional goals courtesy of Cody Gakpo (70′) and an own goal in the 80th minute.

Saturday’s defeat for the Hammers has continued to pile pressure on coach Nuno Espírito Santo as they remain in the relegation zone in 18th place with 25 points.

Other EPL results on Saturday include Bournemouth 1–1 Sunderland and Burnley 3–4 Brentford.
