Michael Carrick provides Lisandro Martinez injury update ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Michael Carrick confirms that Lisandro Martinez remains a doubt ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Lisandro Martinez started the first five matches under Michael Carrick since the 44-year-old returned as head coach in January.

The World Cup winner missed United’s 1-0 win over Everton with an injury he sustained in the days leading up to the game.

Leny Yoro started ahead of Martinez on Monday night at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as United kept their first clean sheet away from home this season.

Michael Carrick expects speedy recovery from Lisandro Martinez

United are looking to climb into third place when they host Crystal Palace on Sunday.

It has been almost eight years since United did the Premier League double over the south London outfit, but they might be without Martinez when they take on Oliver Glasner’s side on Sunday.

While Carrick didn’t completely rule Martinez out of contention for the game, he stated that it might take between one and four days for the Argentina international to recover from a small issue.

“The boys responded well,” Carrick said when asked about missing Martinez.

“They kept a clean sheet so they responded well, Leny came in and did incredibly well. With Licha it’s a small issue, so he’s getting closer, he won’t be out for very long so we’ll just monitor him over the next day, two, three, four days and see when he can come back but he is not far away.”

Michael Carrick happy with Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has been a mainstay in United’s defence this season, despite missing most of last term due to injuries.

The left-back has endured many injuries down the years, but he has managed to stay fit this season.

Now, Shaw is proving to be a reliable force in every match.

When asked about the impact Shaw is having on the team, Carrick added: “He is in a good place Luke, experience helps managing a load, managing your body and he has put a good run of games together.

“I think that in itself is probably underestimated you know and game to game and be fit for the next game but actually to be able to do that over a long period of time sometimes takes some adjusting.

“He has been good for a long time Luke and especially this season to have that consistency shows how much experience has helped him.”
