It was another slow start from Andoni Iraola’s side as they fell behind through Eliezer Mayenda with 18 minutes on the clock.
But substitute Evanilson headed the Cherries back level shortly after the hour mark as the spoils were shared.
Match report and reaction:
The Daily Echo rates the Cherries players in Saturday’s draw.
Djordje Petrovic: 6
Petrovic made some good saves, and I have seen some criticise his role in the Sunderland goal. Perhaps he could have done better but I think more questions need to be asked about the tracking of Mayenda’s run as opposed to his keeping. Overall, a solid enough performance from the Serbian.

Adrien Truffert: 8
An excellent performance from the left back, who was lively at both ends of the pitch.
Marcos Senesi: 7
Mayenda managed to get beyond both the Cherries centre backs to be on hand to finish for the goal, and the Argentine moved to cover Habib Diara as he was played in and shot, meaning the defence was slightly out of position. Beyond the lapses for the goal, it was largely a solid performance defensively from the Cherries and Senesi continues to be a big part of that.
James Hill: 7
As above, Hill was pulled slightly further across for the goal and so Mayenda was able to get between him and Jimenez to finish. Again, Hill continues his excellent form.
Alex Jimenez: 8
I felt a lot of Bournemouth’s most threatening moments came down their right, and Jimenez and Rayan look to be forming a good partnership.

Tyler Adams: 6
Avoided a red card (rightly, in my opinion) but he was replaced shortly afterwards while on a booking. A scrappy game in the midfield as Adams continues to build back up to form after injury.
Alex Scott: 8
Scott has been brilliant recently – and that carried on against Sunderland. He has really grown as a player this season and showed some excellent coolness under pressure at times to carry the ball clear from danger.

David Brooks: 6
Back in the starting XI after making a good impact at West Ham off the bench, but he couldn’t quite have that same impact from the start and he was replaced to make way for Evanilson in the second half.
Marcus Tavernier: 8
While Brooks couldn’t make the impact he did last week, Tavernier did, providing an energetic performance and producing a perfect cross for Evanilson’s goal.
Rayan: 7
As with Jimenez, a lot of good parts of the Cherries attack came down the right. Perhaps he could have got into the game a little more, or his teammates could have brought him into the match more, but he wasn’t far away from winning it deep into the game.
Junior Kroupi: 6
A quiet game for Kroupi. He had a couple of good sights on goal but wasn’t able to convert, and Bournemouth lacked the attributes of Evanilson in the first half.
Substitutes:
Evanilson: 7
A good impact off the bench for the Brazilian as the first half showed exactly why he is so central for the team in the way they play, and a good goal from the striker.

Ryan Christie: 8
Along with the Brazilian, an excellent impact off the bench from the Scot as he helped to dictate the game for the team. He looks to be approaching his best.
