Norwich now sweating as Everton send officials to join race to sign "fantastic" defender -…

Norwich City are now being made to sweat over the future of one of their star men, with Everton and a number of other Premier League clubs all racing to secure his signature.

Everton racing to sign Championship star

The Toffees have sat on the peripheral of the European places all season long. They've clearly got potential in that squad. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry and Jack Grealish - albeit only on loan for the time being - were all intelligent signings to start a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

But there's still work to do in the summer, even if David Moyes urged reporters earlier this week that European qualification is still possible this season - saying: "We’re not quite ready to give up our ambition to make Europe. We are going to try and keep going for it, why would we not?

He just crashed out of the Champions League.

"I could easily turn up here and say ‘By the way, we’re having a pretty comfortable season so let’s forget about it’, but it’s the opposite. We are definitely trying to keep pushing."

European football would, of course, go a long way towards matching Everton's transfer ambitions. Ahead of the summer, recent reports have name-dropped players like Ben White and John Stones on the Toffees' shortlist - highlighting the calibre of stars that they're chasing.

It would be quite the reunion for Stones, who left the club for almost £50m a decade ago. Since then, he's become a serial winner and has played a crucial part in an incredible era under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

He's not the only defender on Everton's shortlist. The Merseyside club could yet opt for a young star rather than the experienced, but injury-prone Stones.

According to TeamTalk, Everton have sent officials to join the race for Kellen Fisher, leaving Norwich to sweat over the future of their young defender.

Fisher could cement Everton right-back spot

As much as Everton wish he could go on forever, Seamus Coleman is now 38 years old and it's the perfect time to find a young replacement in the form of Fisher.

The 21-year-old has quietly become a mainstay under Philippe Clement, cementing his place in what has been an incredibly improved Norwich side. To lose the defender now would be a major blow.

It's not just Everton who are interested, either. Manchester United and Arsenal have also sent scouts to watch the defender in action this season and could yet jump ahead of those at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Dubbed "fantastic" by former Norwich boss David Wagner, it's easy to see why there's so much interest in Fisher ahead of the summer. He has been relentless defensively this season.

If there's any way to replace Coleman, it is with the high energy of someone like Fisher, who is yet to even reach the peak of his powers at Carrow Road.
