Newcastle United 2-3 Everton: Jacob Ramsey scored his first St James’ Park goal before being forced off due to illess on Saturday afternoon.
Ramsey had equalised for Newcastle following Jarrad Branthwaite’s opener before Beto put the visitors back in front before the break.
But as the teams emerged for the second half, Ramsey took ill and was promptly withdrawn when it became visibly clear he couldn’t continue. Jacob Murphy equalised for Newcastle in the closing stages before Thierno Barry put Everton back in front a minute later.

Jacob Ramsey forced off v Everton
Ramsey was arguably Newcastle’s brightest player prior to his withdrawal and he emerged for the second half ready to play before being taken off prior to the restart.
He was replaced by Joe Willock for the second half.
Explaining Ramsey’s withdrawal, Howe said: “It looked like an illness. At first, I was aware it was at half-time.
“He felt he could continue, but it was obvious at the start of that half that he couldn't.”

Jacob Ramsey reacts to Newcastle United goal
After the match, Ramsey took to Instagram to post a positive update despite the negative result for Newcastle.
He wrote: “Proud to have my first goal in front of you all at SJP! Pick ourselves up and go again Wednesday.”

Ramsey’s post was met by a cheeky comment by one of his former Aston Villa teammates. The 24-year-old joined Newcastle from Villa last summer for an initial £39million.
Villa star Morgan Rogers simply replied with a ‘throwing up’ emoji in reference to the scenes involving Ramsey before the second half started at St James’ Park.
Ramsey and Rogers are good friends from their time at Villa and recently had some on-field ‘banter’ ahead of Newcastle’s 3-1 FA Cup win at Villa Park last month.
TNT Sports footage showed Ramsey looking over to his former teammate Rogers and kissing the Newcastle club crest on his training shirt before smiling.
Rogers smirked in response but made his feelings clear by giving the former Villa man a thumbs down.
After a slow start to his Newcastle career, Ramsey has been one of Newcastle’s most impactful players so far in 2026. An excellent display against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was followed up with his first Newcastle goal in a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur.
He then doubled his goal tally for the season against Everton but wasn’t able to help Newcastle turn things around in the second half due to his illness.
