Rob Edwards insisted he didn’t want to cause any drama in his press conference after admitting that Unai Emery didn’t shake his hand following Aston Villa’s defeat at Wolves.
Arguably Villa’s worst result under Emery, bottom club Wolves secured only their second league win of the campaign on Friday night.
Joao Gomes opened the scoring on the hour mark before Rodrigo Gomes doubled the hosts’ lead in the closing stages of second half added time.
Emery left the dugout before the end of the match and didn’t shake Edwards’ hand before heading down the tunnel.
Asked about it in his post-match press conference at Molineux, Edwards joked that he hadn’t shaken the opposition manager’s hand on the occasions he had won at Wolves this season.
“Not yet, I get it. The two games we won both managers had disappeared,” Edwards joked.
“They probably think they can turn up and win given how the season has gone! I've got a lot of respect for Unai, I think he’s brilliant, so it’s fine.”
Asked by Sky Sports why he didn’t shake hands with Edwards after full-time, Emery said: “The match was finished.”
Villa face a hugely important match on Wednesday night, against fellow Champions League chasers Chelsea at Villa Park.
