Morgan Rogers admitted that pressure does sometimes weigh on Aston Villa following the club’s 2-0 defeat to bottom side Wolves.

Facing their relegation-bound West Midlands rivals on Friday night, Villa were presented with the perfect opportunity to increase their buffer inside the top five.

But after Joao Gomes opened the scoring for Wolves on the hour mark, Rodrigo Gomes then doubled the lead deep into second-half stoppage time.

Villa will now host fellow Champions League hopefuls Chelsea at home on Wednesday night, which is a hugely important fixture in the club’s hopes of returning to UEFA’s elite club competition.

Rogers, however, worryingly admitted that pressure can sometimes weigh on the team, even if Unai Emery denied that suggestion in his press conference afterwards.

"It does weigh on us but it shouldn't,” Rogers said on Sky Sports when asked about pressure. “We deserve to be here [top five] and we should not forget that.

“Our run lately has not been as good as usual but that is the battle of the Premier League. We are going to get back to our good run of wins."

Emery, in his press conference, responded to Rogers’ comments.

“No, it's not pressure. It's not pressure. These are wishes. It's not pressure,” he explained.

“Players are playing and they are trying and (it's) not pressure, it's wishes, wishes to be there.

“It's in sight, and motivated to keep it. We must be getting the balance in the season and then work tomorrow, work.

“Sunday, rest. Monday, again, coming back. Tuesday. Focus on the match. Chelsea, wow. What a match. I mean, Chelsea, what a match.”
