Alan Shearer believes Aston Villa’s Premier League results in February could cost them qualification for Europe altogether.

Villa ended February with a terrible 2-0 defeat at bottom club Wolves.

Unai Emery’s side claimed just one victory, drawing twice and losing twice.

They are still in third place in the table, behind Arsenal and Manchester City, but Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all breathing down their neck.

United could knock Villa down to fourth place on Sunday if they beat Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Assessing Villa’s results in February on Match of the Day, Shearer said: “If they don’t make it (European qualification), this is the month that they’ll look back on and think, yeah, that’s cost us.”

“They looked very tired (against Wolves), very leggy and lacking energy,” he added.

“So much of their good play this season has been very different to that, but it’s been very different of late.”

Villa’s next two league matches are against Chelsea and United.
