Daniel Farke was shown a red card after the full-time whistle for confronting referee Peter Bankes, earning his first red card as Leeds United manager, and Eddie Riemer gave his verdict.
In a tense encounter at Elland Road, Manchester City emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to Antoine Semenyo’s decisive goal just before half-time. But Leeds deserved a whole lot more.
The incident occurred moments after the final whistle, with Farke running onto the pitch to express his frustration over Bankes’ timekeeping. Leeds assistant manager Eddie Riemer took on post-match duties.
“We had six minutes added time. If you’re chasing the game and see the opposition does what all teams do and waste time – they got booked for wasting time – then you add a few seconds more.”

Norwich in the FA Cup, too
Riemer added that Farke’s actions were driven by emotion, as the team was desperately pushing for an equaliser. Leeds’ defeat was also marred by controversial officiating decisions.
The team felt aggrieved by several calls, including a denied penalty for a handball and an unpunished stamp by Rayan Cherki on Ilia Gruev. These, and two golden chances missed, saw Leeds lose 1-0.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a sitter early on, and Brenden Aaronson could not score past Gianluigi Donnarumma when clean through. Jaka Bijol’s first touch was a header that fizzed past the far post.

“You’re emotional. The explanation is going to be that he is overly emotional. We’d wish for a more sensible reaction from the referee, to give a yellow card,” Riemer added on Farke’s red card.
Leeds executed the game plan to perfection. They should have scored twice in the first half, and on another day, could have had three or four. But this is Man City, and this is what Man City can do.
Daniel Farke will receive touchline ban
Farke’s absence from the touchline in upcoming matches could have significant implications for Leeds United. His passion and tactical acumen are integral, and his suspension might disrupt their rhythm.
Who was your Man of the Match?
It certainly wasn't Peter Bankes, that's for sure!
As the team prepares to face Sunderland next, Farke will have to watch from the stands and he is unlikely to be the only key figure missing. Riemer confirmed Leeds are yet to know the extent of Rodon’s injury.
Leeds need to regroup quickly and focus on bouncing back. With the Premier League season entering a crucial phase, every match counts, and Farke’s leadership from the sidelines will be sorely missed.
The team will have to draw on their resilience and tactical discipline to navigate this challenging period. But, as things stand, Leeds still remain six points above West Ham, with West Ham losing to Liverpool.
