Man Utd face Crystal Palace in the Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon and here is the latest injury news.
The Argentine was ruled out of the 1-0 win over Everton on Monday night after he suffered a 'small calf injury' and was not fit enough to be available for the match this weekend. United still hope Martinez could be available for their midweek trip to face Newcastle, though he will undergo a late fitness test to decide on his potential involvement.
Carrick is positive that Martinez is 'not far away' from his return to the United side, with a further update on his fitness expected ahead of the Newcastle match. United have made one change to their starting line up for the Palace match, with Benjamin Sesko selected in place of Amad Diallo in the forward line.

Manchester United issue Lisandro Martinez update
Speaking ahead of Manchester United's clash with Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Michael Carrick explained his starting line up and why Lisandro Martinez was not involved.
"I think Ben [Sesko] has been in a good spot and a good feeling for a number of weeks - it is building that belief and confidence," he told Sky Sports. "Looking forward to seeing him today and Amad is a good option for us to finish the game. It is great to have those options."
When pushed for an update on Martinez, Carrick added: "We will have to wait and see. He is close and he is not far away, but it is hard to say at the moment."
United have won five of their last nine league matches that Martinez has started, and won just eight of their 19 without him this campaign. Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire kept a clean sheet in his absence last time out against Everton and keep their place in defence against Palace on Sunday afternoon.
