The home side went three goals down during a horror first-half. While the Clarets pulled a goal back just before the interval, the half-time whistle was still met with loud boos.

Chants of “we want Parker out” could also be heard after Brentford’s third goal went in.

To Burnley’s credit, they produced an impressive second-half comeback to get back on level terms, only to lose the game deep into stoppage-time.

To compound the Clarets’ frustrations, they also had two ‘goals’ ruled out by VAR during a dramatic and action-packed second-half.

When asked if Burnley’s second-half fight back might change fans’ minds, Parker replied: “I hope so.

"Walking in from half-time, as we all experienced and as you can all see, it wasn't nice. I could sense that with the group. I could sense that with the players, so we had to reboot.

"People have choices, of course, and everyone has choices to vent how they want to vent in terms of struggles.

“This group hears a constant message from me, which is we don't have a choice, and you never have a choice. Your choice is one, and that is you always stand up, face up, and keep pushing.

"The fans were brilliant in the second half, but that was down to us. The reason the fans were brilliant was down to us and it was because we came with them.

"I understand the frustration. Of course, we're all frustrated at 3-0 down. We're all frustrated. But the players were incredible in terms of the way they went about things second half and it gave us a lift. It gave hope to the fans.

“I think there's one thing that our supporters can see today, leaving here today. You can be critical in certain moments, but the one thing you can't be critical of is this group and what this shirt means, what playing for this team means, and what we stand for.

"I hope that the fans can see that.”
