Liverpool continued to build momentum with an ultimately comfortable victory over West Ham United on Saturday afternoon. Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and an Axel Disasi own goal helped the Reds towards a 5-2 win with Tomas Soucek and Taty Castellanos replying.

The result means Arne Slot's side are now firmly in the running for a top-four place and have lost only twice in their last 21 games in all competitions.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Anfield...

Gomez told

Joe Gomez was the latest to brave the Liverpool right-back curse and step into the position. And that he managed to get through unscathed will be a huge relief to all concerned.

There did, though, appear to be some teething problems despite the Reds taking an early lead, with Gomez coming over to the touchline for talks with Arne Slot barely 10 minutes into the game.

Lots of arm-waving and pointed discussion ensued before Gomez was sent on his way. Perhaps the Liverpool boss was suggesting it might be the day for the defender to finally score...

Gakpo danger

Cody Gakpo had a bit of an eventful afternoon. His goal was only a third since November and came after he had missed an absolute sitter, much to the disbelief of himself and the Anfield crowd.

In between, the clearly frustrated Dutchman was booked for holding a West Ham shirt and later on flirted with a second yellow after a tackle during the closing moments.

But there was a funny incident in the first half when, having not noticed he had been flagged offside, Gakpo cleaned out Holland international team-mate Crysencio Summerville before pleading his innocence. Given the danger the West Ham winger posed throughout, it probably wasn't the worst idea ever.

Kenny signs

Saturday was a special occasion with it being designated the club's Red Together fixture which highlighted its dedication to equality, diversity and inclusion.

The match also celebrated the club’s new ‘Signs of Unity’ campaign with Carlsberg, which has been developed in collaboration with the British Deaf Association.

Supporters were invited to take part in singing and signing You'll Never Walk Alone with a special British Sign Language rendition of the anthem, with Kenny Dalglish among those spotted participating.
