Vitor Pereira explains why he rested Nottingham Forest star after Brighton defeat

Morgan Gibbs-White scored another goal for Nottingham Forest as his long-range effort proved in vain against Brighton.

Goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck ensured another Premier League defeat for Forest, who sit perilously close to the relegation zone.

Vitor Pereira named a strong starting eleven as the Reds went to the AMEX Stadium looking desperately for three points with Manchester City to play on Wednesday night.

Gibbs-White was the standout Forest performer and he’s going to be instrumental to the club’s fortunes going forward if Premier League football is to remain on the agenda next season.

After his wonderful goal, Pereira explained the thought process behind giving him a little rest in midweek when Fenerbahce came to the City Ground.

Vitor Pereira says he had no choice but to rest Morgan Gibbs-White

The Forest captain was restricted to a few minutes from the bench on Thursday night, and after his return to the starting eleven against Brighton, Pereira addressed that decision.

He believes that playing on Thursday and Sunday is taking a toll on the players when it comes to fitness and fatigue.

On Gibbs-White, he said: “We rested Morgan for the last game, and it makes a big difference.

“If I didn’t change for the last game, imagine today. Competing in the Europa League and competing against after three days, we needed to understand the proper times to press and the proper times to wait.”

Forest need other players to start scoring goals

The Reds are looking the most likely to get relegated at the moment, with West Ham picking up some form and Tottenham boasting quality in their squad when it comes to scoring goals.

Forest don’t need to let their heads go down, but after this performance against Brighton, it does look as though the writing is on the wall.

The Reds slipped to a 2-1 defeat…

Gibbs-White can’t do these things on his own and although his goal was brilliant, he was badly let down at the opposite end of the pitch by some schoolboy defending.

Forest now need other players to join forces with Gibbs-White and help lead the Reds to enough points to remain a Premier League club for next season.
