Everton have now hatched ambitious plans to sign a "phenomenal" striker, who has outscored Beto and Thierno Barry combined so far this season.
Toffees set sights on new striker despite Barry's form
Barry made a slow start to life in the Premier League, failing to score in his opening 14 appearances, but the centre-forward is starting to find his feet, netting his sixth goal of the campaign in the 3-2 victory against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Beto has also struggled at times, but after being given the nod in the starting XI against the Magpies, the 28-year-old repaid David Moyes for his faith in him by scoring the Toffees' second goal in the win at St. James' Park.
That said, even though there have been signs of improvement as of late, Moyes' strikers have netted just ten goals between them in all competitions this season, so it would make sense to bring in a new centre-forward at the end of the season.
According to reporter Alan Nixon (via Everton News), Everton have now hatched ambitious plans to sign Atletico Madrid star Alexander Sorloth, who has 15 goals to his name in all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign.

Even though Sorloth has been a reliable goalscorer, netting more goals than Beto and Barry combined, the Spanish side are willing to cash-in during the summer transfer window, and a potential transfer fee of £25m has been touted.
Moyes' scouts have been left impressed by the Norwegian's performances, and it is no wonder, considering he has starred in the Champions League, while also finding the net in La Liga on a regular basis...
Sorloth could be upgrade on Barry and Beto
The 30-year-old has often been utilised as a substitute by Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone this season, but he's still managed to retain a very encouraging goal record across all competitions.
Alexander Sorloth's goal record Appearances Goals
La Liga 25 9
Champions League 9 5
Supercopa 1 1
Near the end of February, the Norway international put in a match-winning performance as Atletico swept Club Brugge in the second leg of the Champions League play-off round, scoring a hat-trick in an emphatic 4-1 victory.
Simeone has also been full of praise for his striker in the past, saying during the 2024-25 season: "Every time Sørloth has come in from the bench he has been phenomenal, and when he has started he has also helped us.
"He lives up to our expectations, but we hope to see even more from him."
As such, Sorloth could be a statement signing for Everton this summer, and a £25m transfer fee seems very reasonable, given that the Atletico Madrid star is proven at the highest level.
