114 touches, 11/13 duels won: Man Utd monster is now as undroppable as Sesko & Bruno - opinion

Manchester United have jumped up to third spot in the Premier League after a challenging 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace was secured on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils had to survive an early scare after Maxence Lacroix headed past Senne Lammens after barely five minutes had been played, but Michael Carrick's hosts won while playing the long game, as Lacroix's later sending off ultimately gifted United a slim 2-1 win.

Benjamin-Sesko-1

After Bruno Fernandes equalised from the penalty spot, Benjamin Sesko was the second-half hero that Carrick and Co were crying out for, as the Slovenian connected with a delightful delivery from the aforementioned Fernandes, to keep up his recent red-hot form for the Champions League chasing side.

Sesko does it again for Man Utd

The 22-year-old was rewarded with a Premier League start against the Eagles, having scored two goals as an impact sub against Everton and West Ham United in the build-up to this showdown with Oliver Glasner's side.

Carrick was vindicated in that decision-making, too, as the lethal centre-forward was in the right place at the right time to convert the winner, as he constantly threatened Dean Henderson's goal throughout.

Off the back of bagging this instinctive header, the £66m purchase is up to a haul of eight strikes for the season, from just 12 Premier League starts.

To further stroke Sesko's ego, the match-winning effort beating Henderson means the number 30 now has six goals next to his name from his last seven top-flight appearances, as Joshua Zirkzee begins to seriously fear where his next league minutes are coming from.

It was far from a one-man show that won United all three points against the stern Eagles, however.

Sesko will hope he can keep a firm grip on being United's starting marksman, as the goals continue to flow after this tight win over Palace.

Likewise, Casemiro will be confident that he has a concrete starting place in the middle of the park for Carrick's men, as the seasoned Red Devils veteran put in another composed and assured display, when he was once in danger of dropping out of the first team plans completely.

The former Real Madrid midfielder totally dominated proceedings centrally, with the Brazilian coming off at the end of the even contest with 114 touches amassed.

To add context, Daichi Kamada for the away side only managed to accumulate 51 touches, while his partner, Adam Wharton, who has been previously tipped to pull on United red, could only muster up a lesser 30 touches.

Manchester United's Casemiro in action

Moreover, while the number 19 is known to be a classy presence in the centre of the park, he also showed off his more gritty side in stages of the game against Glasner and Co, winning a high 11 duels.

Not even an impressive Jaydee Convot at the back for the Eagles could better that amount, when ending the defeat with just five duels won, in comparison.

At this late stage in his United career, it's remarkable how solid a spot Casemiro has managed to carve out for himself in Carrick's starting XI, with the 34-year-old loving every minute of his current Red Devils journey, before his contract expires.

Casemiro will walk away from United this summer, but that doesn't mean it has to be all doom and gloom regarding the South American at the Theatre of Dreams.

Instead, working alongside Sesko and Carrick, the heartbeat of United's midfield will continue to give his all, as the Red Devils desperately hope they win a seat at the illustrious Champions League table again.
