Pep Guardiola is unsure when Erling Haaland will be back but hopes the talismanic forward can recover in time for our home Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest or FA Cup encounter at Newcastle United.
Haaland missed out against Leeds United on Saturday after picking up a knock in training on the eve of the Elland Road encounter.
Next up for City is Forest on Wednesday at the Etihad, kick-off 19:30 (UK) before a match at St James Park on Saturday, which starts at 20:00 (UK).
And the boss is keeping his fingers crossed that the Premier League’s leading goalscorer can make a return in that upcoming double.
“I don’t have any answer right now,” he said post-match at Leeds.
“So he was not ready for today, but we have four days before Nottingham Forest and after, three days to the FA Cup at Newcastle at 8pm.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola revealed Nico O’Reilly had to be substituted at Leeds because of an ankle problem.
The versatile 20-year-old had to be withdrawn on 70 minutes and was replaced by Tijjani Reijnders.
O’Reilly has been one of – if not the – standout player for the Blues of late, starring in central midfield and bagging three goals in our last three Premier League games including a winning double against Newcastle.
“It’s for the ankle,” the manager added.
“He had a knock in the ankle and played on and was out.”
