Newcastle United star issues sad injury update after being ruled out for 13 games - including…

Newcastle United’s wait for a Premier League win without Bruno Guimaraes continued with a 3-2 defeat to Everton on Saturday at St James’ Park.

A record of five points out of a possible 36 for The Magpies is a stark contrast to a side who have picked up the fourth most Premier League points of any side since Guimaraes’ arrival four years ago. Only Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool have accumulated more in that time.

So the last thing Newcastle needed was an extended injury layoff for one of their key players. Guimaraes suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur last month, also the side’s only Premier League win in their last seven games.

The poor record without Guimaraes continued on Saturday with a 3-2 defeat against Everton at St James’ Park. It’s the first time Newcastle have lost three successive home league matches since the takeover and leaves the side sitting 13th in the table with 10 games left to play.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, they are likely to remain without their captain until the final few matches of the season.

Bruno Guimaraes injury latest

Guimaraes has been in Brazil working with the medical staff at Atletico Mineiro and now Botafogo during his rehabilitation process.

While Guimaraes is expected to return to action before the end of the season, it is likely that the injury will sideline him for around 10 weeks.

Guimaraes has already been ruled out of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming March international break as he focuses on getting fully up to speed for Newcastle and in time to go away with Brazil to the World Cup in North America this summer.

Guimaraes is expected to remain in Brazil for around a month which will rule him out of Newcastle’s upcoming matches against Manchester United, Chelsea and Sunderland in the Premier League, Manchester City in the FA Cup as well as both legs of the Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona.

At the very list, Guimaraes will miss 11 games for Newcastle plus two friendly matches with Brazil, but his injury could keep him out of matches following the March international break.

Guimaraes’ injury recovery in Brazil comes with the blessing of Newcastle.

“He spoke with our medical team, and we've been in consultation with the Brazilian national team, so he's going to do his first part of his rehab with the Brazilian national team and then he'll come back to us for the last four weeks,” Howe explained.

“So I think it's a good mix for Bruno. Because in the initial stages he won't be able to do too much, he gets a sort of mental refresh, while doing some good work, and then comes back to finish off his final part of his rehab.”

Bruno Guimaraes posts injury updates from Brazil

Newcastle took to Instagram to post some small updates on his injury recovery from Brazil.

The midfielder shared Newcastle’s starting line-up against Everton along with the caption: “I’m missing it (teary-eyed emoji).”

The sad update was then followed up by Guimaraes posting a video of himself on an exercise bike with the caption: “Step by step.”

He later posted a similar update stating: “Every day and day.”

While Newcastle are desperate to have Guimaraes back in action and the player himself is keen to return to full fitness, the club will have to find a way to win without him in the meantime or else their season will be a write-off.
