Jacob Ramsey, Bruno Guimaraes & Tino Livramento - Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates.
The Magpies lost 3-2 to Everton on Saturday in what was their third straight Premier League defeat on home soil.
Heading into the final 10 matches of the campaign, Eddie Howe side sit 12 in the table, 12 points below the top five and seven points behind 7th. Dropping any further points and it will ultimately be curtains on their hopes of qualifying for Europe.
Man United arrive on Tyneside unbeaten in seven under interim boss and Wallsend-born Michael Carrick, six wins and a draw that has lifted them to third in the table.
Howe has pointed to his side’s injury list in recent weeks, so will he get any players back for the visit of the Red Devils? Here’s Newcastle’s injury list and expected return dates:
Jacob Ramsey
Ramsey returned to the starting line-up against Everton after missing the previous game versus Qarabag with a hamstring issue, however withdrew at half-time due to illness.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said after the game: “It looked like an illness. At first, I was aware it was at half-time. He felt he could continue, but it was obvious at the start of that half that he couldn't.”
Expected return date
Manchester United (H), 04/03.
Malick Thiaw
Thiaw is suspended against Qarabag after picking up his third Champions League yellow card of the campaign in the first-leg.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said on Monday “Yeah, it's going to be a blow for us. I said that when his suspension was confirmed, a big loss for us at the heart of our defence. I think Malick has been hugely impressive this season, model of consistency. I actually think the last few games, again, has been some of his strongest of the season. I think he's, considering the amount of games he's played, really, really good in that sense.
“I think on the ball, he's come back to being at his very best level. I think defensively he's been superb. I think he's been an incredible signing for us. He's a great lad as well. Settled in really quickly to the group. So yeah, he'll be a miss, but fingers crossed it's just for one game.”
Expected return date
Everton (H), 28/02.
Bruno Guimaraes
Guimaraes, who had only just returned from four matches out with an ankle injury, was forced off in stoppage time against Spurs with a hamstring issue.
Following further assessment, the Brazilian has been ruled out until April.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said: “I think the timeframe will be the timeframe really on this injury, I don't think there's any miracle cure for him. I think it will be a couple of months, as you say, we're probably looking at the end of the international break in March for his return.
“Massive blow for us, key stage of the season. He's devastated but it is what it is, we can't do anything about it, we just have to try and get him back safely and other players have to step up in his absence.”
Expected return date
AFC Bournemouth (H) 18/04.
Lewis Miley
Miley last featured in the 1-1 draw away to Paris Saint-Germain. He was on the bench for the following match against Liverpool but hasn’t been in the squad since.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said on Friday: “Yeah, we've just been advised with Lewy to be really careful with this injury. It was a dead leg, so a knock, which usually with a knock of that type, it's maybe a couple of days and you're back. But there was a little bit of muscle disruption.
“He's had a couple of injections. I think he's got one more to come. I think I've been saying a couple of weeks for a while, but I think we're looking at a couple of weeks with Lewy.
“Because I think if we don't get the management of this injury right, it could rule him out for the season, so I think we're being careful to hopefully get him back in a good place.”
Expected return date
Chelsea (A), 14/03.
Tino Livramento
Livramento was forced off during the FA Cup third round penalty shootout win over AFC Bournemouth with a hamstring injury.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said on Friday: “Yes, I think Tino will be early March. We think he's still on track for that.
“He's done really well. He's been training now, not with us, but separately running for a period of time. I think he's had a really good body of work behind him.
“So, I think when he comes back, he'll be in a good place. I don't think it's too long to wait.”
Expected return date
Manchester City (H), 07/03.
Fabian Schar
Schar has undergone surgery to repair the ankle ligament damage he sustained in the 4-3 comeback victory over Leeds United on January 7.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said: “He had a successful surgery yesterday, which is great news. Everything went according to plan. I think, difficult to give a definitive [date] but roughly around three months, I think, will be the diagnosis that we'll work towards if it's any quicker than great.
“But I think we need to give Fabian now the time to recover, it's quite a serious injury.”
Expected return date
April 2026.
Emil Krafth
Krafth picked up a knee injury on international duty with Sweden and after months of struggling to recover has undergone knee surgery.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said: “Emil's had an operation on his knee so I think in all likelihood it looks like the season is over, which is a real blow for us.
“He first suffered the problem on international duty. We hoped that he could come back and be OK, but it was clear in training recently that he wasn't going to get to the level needed and that he needed a surgical intervention.”
