Frenchman tells Man United sign striker–United get deal done for Big star–£100M Man United target tipped for move

Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Drawin Nunez, Joshua Zirkzee and Sandro Tonali that you may have missed…

Former Blues star turned pundit Marcel Desailly believes former Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has plenty left to prove in the Premier League, naming Chelsea and Manchester United as possible destinations.

The Uruguayan international, who left Anfield in the summer, is said to have emerged as a potential attacking solution for the two clubs as they look to reinforce their forward lines ahead of next season.

Núñez endured an inconsistent spell at Liverpool after joining from Benfica in 2022, producing flashes of explosive quality but struggling for sustained form in Jürgen Klopp’s system.

Despite a respectable goal return across all competitions, the club opted to reshape its attacking unit, leading to his exit. His performances since leaving England — marked by improved finishing and renewed confidence — have now reportedly placed him back on the radar of top-flight sides seeking a powerful, versatile forward

And amid all the speculation and rumours, Desailly has come out and encouraged both Chelsea and Manchester United to consider making a move to sign the former Liverpool star when the transfer window opens up: ‘I’m pleased to see him wanting to come back to European football – it shows money isn’t everything,’ Desailly told Footitalia.

‘A club like Chelsea, or the new Manchester United, would be best for him. He needs to be surrounded by established, confident players who know they’re going to play every weekend and who will give him the ball on the first intention.

‘That’s the small detail – when he makes a run, he needs to get the ball immediately. Otherwise he loses confidence quickly.’

Could United or Chelsea sign Nunez?

Look, Nunez has got his confidence back in Saudi Arabia, he is scoring goals again, but he would be a Fernando Torres type signing for both Manchester United and Chelsea. A striker signing that has all the potential and the inability to score the goals that he was signed for.

If he does come back to European football, he should look to make the move to Italy or Spain, that style of football suits his ability alot more than what the Premier League does.

So we believe he would not be a good signing for Chelsea or United, he was giving all the opportunities at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp to shine, but he just couldnt score goals in one of the best attacks in Europe.

UNITED TO SELL ZIRKZEE

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to sanction the sale of striker Joshua Zirkzee in the upcoming summer transfer window as part of a broader plan to free up funds to reinvest in their squad, according to Daily Mirror-linked transfer speculation.

Zirkzee arrived from Bologna in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth around £36.5 million, signing a long-term contract with high expectations after a prolific spell in Serie A. However, the striker has struggled to justify the fee on English soil — netting just nine goals in 67 appearances across all competitions and frequently finding himself behind other attacking options in the pecking order.

With the club now prioritising a summer of significant squad overhaul, Manchester United’s hierarchy are understood to be open to listening to offers for Zirkzee as they seek to bolster the midfield and forward ranks.

Reports suggest that moving on Zirkzee could unlock valuable transfer funds amid budget constraints and a desire to reshape the squad after a disappointing league campaign.

Why Zirkzee needs to leave

Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford has failed to live up to early promise. Despite flashes of technical ability and occasional clever link-up play, he has struggled to secure consistent starts under successive managers, largely overshadowed by more productive attackers such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Limited game time has also been a genuine concern for the forward’s international prospects. Reports from earlier in the season suggested that the striker was growing frustrated with a lack of minutes and even considering a winter move to reignite his career.

Adding to the pressure is the fact that United have invested heavily elsewhere in attack — signings totalling over £120 million in forward options — yet Zirkzee has continued to struggle to make a decisive impression.

Will a move materialise?

Whether Zirkzee actually leaves this summer remains up in the air. While there is reported interest from Serie A outfits and other European clubs, it’s not yet clear if Manchester United will receive offers that match their valuation.

Moreover, optimism from some supporters — and praise from teammates such as Mbeumo — suggests that the Dutchman might still have the ability to turn his United career around if given sufficient trust and minutes on the pitch.

However, the prevailing sentiment among some analysts is that a fresh start could benefit all parties: Zirkzee could secure much-needed regular football elsewhere, and United could reinvest the funds into areas where they see a more immediate upgrade.

For now, though, his future at Old Trafford looks increasingly uncertain unless a convincing turnaround occurs next season.

SANDRO TONALI TIPPED FOR BIG MOVE

Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio has tipped Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali to join Serie A giants Juventus in the future, despite the interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Towards the end of the January transfer window, Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for the Italian star as reports suggested that the Red Devils was looking to add some quality to that midfield

But that move obviously never happened and Tonali is staying put to try and help Newcastle get back into Europe and compete against the very best teams, but that may not be the case next season if you believe all the transfer rumours.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marchisio was asked whether he would pursue a free transfer for Bernardo Silva, who is out of contract at Manchester City this summer. However, the former midfielder pivoted and said his former club needed to bring in strong Italian players to help them in their bid to return to the top of Serie A.

He said: “Football changes, but the DNA of clubs does not. Juventus have always had a core group of Italian champions and needs to rebuild it. [Gianluigi] Donnarumma seems unattainable to me, he just moved to Manchester City.

‘Tonali seems more feasible. He would be an excellent starting point, but patience will be needed.”

Will Tonali make the move back to Italian football?

Tonali is a quality player that could make that next step in his career, especially if he wants to play at the highest level and compete for the biggest trophies, we can see him leaving even if Newcastle get into Europe

It seems that the midfielder will have alot of options to choose from in the summer, we are sure that Arsenal , Chelsea and Manchester United will all want to try and get some kind of transfer deal done.

A move to Juventus would really tempt Tonali, but he is settled in England and he would get a much better wage if he stays in the Premier League that is for sure.
