Manchester United interim boss Michael Carrick insists moving above Aston Villa and into third place in the Premier League “doesn't mean an awful lot at the moment”.
The two clubs are locked together on 51 points in third and fourth places, with United climbing above Villa on goal difference thanks to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Villa head to Old Trafford on March 15 for a huge match in the battle for a top-four finish and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Speaking about being in third place, Carrick said: “It doesn't mean an awful lot at the moment.
“It is nice and we want to keep progressing. We came back from the goal so early and responded."
United captain Bruno Fernandes also discussed their top-four ambitions after beating the Eagles, agreeing with Carrick that there is still a long way to go before the end of the season.
"There are a lot of games to go still and it is important that we don't feel that we are in the position that we need to be,” he said.
“We need to make as many points as we can."
